What’s not to love about Pom Poms?

Pom Poms are fun, creative and versatile that can be added to so many different looks, from keyrings to jewellery and hair accessories which can create both dramatic and everyday looks depending on the individual desire. There's nothing so easy and comforting like making a pom pom! The great thing about pom poms are that they’re very cost effective if brought on the high street and can even be handmade cheaply which doesn’t take long to make at all! If you’re also inspired by the pom-poms you can find the video on our Facebook page 'KRK Trends' which demonstrates how I made my own pom poms, and also with a step by step picture below that will show you how to make them. But did you know that these fluffy, different sorts of coloured puffs of joy can be incorporated into so many different fashion and hairstyles that are beginning to take off as the newest all year-round trend for 2017?

Well, I always enjoy wearing pom poms especially during the bitter cold, winter season where I wrap up warm with my pom pom hat. I love them because in my eyes they make me look cute. The idea to use pom-poms for my Public Relations assignment came up when I saw an article here on Facebook, the article discussed the first creation of how pom pom history was made which really fascinated me and my colleagues. The article that I read said that soldiers that served in submarines use to have berets with pom poms on it, as the sealing of the ship used to be so low, they invented the pom pom to prevent soldiers from hitting their heads and softening their injury in case they held their head up too high! (It is quite impressive when you think about it, but I bet they were grateful as I’m sure all of their heads were hurting!)

The earliest information found stated that pom poms originated from France during the 18 centuries with the French word “pompon” (Is it just me that imagined that word being said by one of those crazy people with garlic around their neck, wearing a stripy black and white jumper, long curled moustache and Barrett hat all under the Eiffel tower?) and after some time pom poms then were spread to Europe. The Shape and colour was changed depending on the army and the country that was wearing it from. Pom poms also were used in some places a source of pride for the soilder, and the popularity of pom-poms raised in 1930s during the great depression, as well as for physical activities like cheerleading! Pom poms were also hugely popular within the 80’s era with pom pom socks, attached to clothing and added to the crazy bold hairstyles. Even now, everyone loved how easy it is to make a pom-pom and how universal it can be.
